CAR HIRE IN SOUTH AFRICA

GENERAL INFORMATION

Prices are quoted per day and hire periods are calculated on a 24 hour basis, e.g. if a car is collected at 3pm on Saturday for one week's rental, it must be returned the following Saturday no later than 3pm. Minimum age for
hire of vehicles is 18 years. Drivers must produce a full, current driving licence held for a minimum of one year and if not in English then an International Driver's Permit is also required. Those in possession of an old style British licence should carry photo identification with them at all times. A valid credit card (debit cards not accepted) is required to cover the deposit for the exclusions listed below. This will be taken in the form of a credit card authorisation and sufficient funds must be available on the card. On returning the vehicle, the authorisation will be cancelled for any charges not incurred.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) & Theft Loss Waiver (TLW)
For rentals in South Africa our prices include Maximum CDW and TLW with zero excess. Traifinders prices include cover for damage to the windscreen, tyre, rim, hubcaps and undercarriage. Please note CDW does not cover damage caused by sandblasting or valet charges (when applicable).

General Public Liability Insurance, Personal Accident Insurance & Third Party Liability Insurance
All insurance is void should the terms and conditions as stated in your rental agreement be violated.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES

Deposit
A refundable deposit of R1,400 (approx. £100) is payable locally by credit card.

Additional Drivers
One additional driver is free. Each extra driver costs R180, must be registered on collection and show the necessary identification.

Infant/Child Seats
These are required by law and cost R230 per seat. They must be requested at least 72 hours in advance and are available for children up to the age of 5 years.

Additional Administration Fees
A rental contract fee of R40 per rental will apply. There is also a traffic fine administration fee of R195 in addition to any actual traffic fine.

One Way Hires
One way hires within South Africa are available subject to a fee of R515 except:

• Rentals between Johannesburg and Pretoria are free of charge.
• Rentals from Johannesburg to Durban, Cape Town,
• Limpopo or Mpumalanga cost R775 (R430 in reverse).
• Rentals between Durban and Richards Bay cost R155.
• Rentals between Johannesburg and Sun City or Rustenburg cost R155.

Cross Border Hires
A letter of authority must be obtained at the time of vehicle collection in order to take it over the border. Restrictions apply regarding which countries can be
entered and local CDW and TLW conditions come into effect upon entry. One way and return cross border fees and road taxes apply and are available on request.

The Right Car For You
It is important to book the right car according to your needs and party size. A smaller vehicle may be fine for a city stay but a larger, more powerful vehicle with ample space to store all of your luggage out of sight will be better if going further afield. Your driving time may also be more comfortable with air-conditioning. It is important to consider that luggage space will be greatly reduced and not as shown opposite if all seats are occupied.

Upgrading
Please note that if you have booked and paid for a particular car type and on arrival you are offered 'an upgrade', you will be required to pay extra for it! You would also pay more for the upgrade locally than if you had originally paid for the bigger car so it is best to book the car group you actually want in advance.

Mobile Phones/GPS
Mobile phones can be hired easily on arrival at all major airports and do not need to be pre-booked. GPS units are available for collection from and return to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban International Airports and Cape Town Downtown (123 Strand Street). You are advised to pre-book a GPS unit. Minimum age for GPS rental is 21 years. The cost is R70 per day plus a one off contract fee of R18, all excluding VAT and payable by credit card on collection. Insurance is included and is subject to an excess of R1,500 should the unit be lost, stolen or damaged. Accessories are not covered and will
be billed at standard retail prices. A security deposit of R6,000 will be held against a credit card but will not be processed unless the unit is not returned.

Fuel
Please note when purchasing fuel in South Africa, credit and debit cards are generally not accepted at most garages. Please note: the above additional charges are all payable locally, correct at the time of going to print and are valid until 31 Oct 09 only and subject to change by Avis at any time.
