VEHICLE NOTES
Economy - Group X vehicles are only available to hire from state capital airport and city locations.
Vehicle descriptions shown are a UK/Irish equivalent. These and seating/ luggage capacities are for guidence only.
It will be possible to fit more luggage in a Fullsize Station Wagon (group F) as this is the equivalent of a UK/Irish estate car.
If all seats are taken in the Fullsize Minivan, there is no luggage space.
Prices are for all areas except Northern Territory where higher rates apply; please ask for details.
Lower prices are available for rentals of 21 or more days; please ask for details.

MULTIPLE HIRE
If you are renting a number of cars, Avis’ Multiple Hire facility can save you money.
Prices are calculated by using the total number of car rental days booked e.g. 3 separate
hires of 5 days would entitle you to the 14-20 day price level.
AVIS ONE WAY POLICY
Conditions: each hire must be a minimum 2 days • form part of the same Australian
itinerary • same car group is used for each rental • if applicable, one way terms and
drop fees will apply to each individual rental.
Avis one way policy
Continuous rentals of 3 days or more generally do not incur a one way drop fee. Please see below for details and exceptions:
Group X cars: may not be rented on a one way basis.
Queensland: no one way fees apply for rentals between Cairns & Port Douglas and between Gold Coast, Brisbane & Sunshine Coast, regardless of duration.
Tasmania: no one way fees apply within Tasmania. Rentals into/out of Tasmania are not permitted.
Western Australia: one way rentals within Western Australia are subject to variable drop fees and vehicle availability.
Northern Territory: no one way fees apply within Northern Territory for rentals of 3 days or more.
Into/out of Western Australia & Northern Territory: only car groups C, D, E, F & W may be driven one way into/out of Western Australia & Northern Territory from/to all states (except Tasmania). This is only permitted between major airport and downtown locations during the dry months from April to November. Rentals must be 3 days or more and a one way fee of AU $800 will apply.
One way fees for 1 to 2 day rentals: vary between locations. Please ask for details.
DRIVING AREAS
General Information: vehicles can only be driven on roads which are mapped, properly constructed as a sealed, metalled or gravel road and cannot be driven on beaches or through streams, rivers or floodwaters. Vehicles rented on mainland Australia may not leave the mainland and be taken to Tasmania, or any other island.
Queensland: vehicles can only be driven on the main road to Cape Tribulation and may not be driven further north, except All Wheel Drives & 4WD vehicles which may be driven as far as Cooktown on mapped roads only. Vehicles may not be driven beyond Chillagoe in a westerly direction, beyond Normanton in a southerly direction or on the Birdsville Track. Vehicles cannot be taken to Fraser Island.
Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, ACT: vehicles may not be driven above the snow line between June & September (Jindabyne in NSW & Bright in VIC). Vehicles rented in Tasmania may not be taken to the mainland or to Bruny Island.
South Australia: vehicles may not be driven on the Oodnadatta track or taken to Kangaroo Island.
Northern Territory & Western Australia: there are a number of roads in Western Australia and Northern Territory that are access roads to Aboriginal communities; please note driving is not permitted in these areas without an approved permit. It is also essential that you advise Avis on collection if you are planning to drive through the Northern Territory or Western Australia as additional insurance may be required (only car groups E & F permitted and April - November). Vehicles may not be driven on the Jim Jim Falls & Twin Falls Roads (Kakadu) or the Gibb River Road (Kimberley). Vehicles rented in Western Australia south of Exmouth may not be driven north of Exmouth. Travel on any road other than main highways 1 and 96 north of Geraldton is not recommended. Mine access roads in the Pilbara are private and cannot be driven on.
